J&K Police Finalize Layered Security Plan for Amarnath Yatra

Overview

• Jammu and Kashmir Police finalized a layered security package on Sunday that directs heightened vigilance and sustained deployments for the July 3–August 28 Amarnath Yatra.
• The plan orders regular area domination, continuous patrolling and intensified cordon-and-search operations (CASOs), with CASOs defined as targeted sweeps to locate weapons or hostile elements.
• Quick Response Teams (QRTs) will be stationed at strategic points and daily anti-sabotage checks will be conducted along pilgrimage routes and major arteries to speed local emergency aid.
• Authorities will expand CCTV coverage and roll out RFID tracking for pilgrims and authorized Yatra vehicles so officials can monitor locations and cut response times during incidents.
• Joint mock drills in Ganderbal and Anantnag tested coordination between local police, the Special Operations Group and Central Armed Police Forces, and officials said the measures also cover Muharram observances and the Mela Kheer Bhawani to reassure pilgrims and protect transit hubs.
