J&K Police Arrest Alleged LeT/TRF Aide in Pahalgam Massacre Probe

Police say forensic matches from July’s Operation Mahadev led them to a suspected overground worker now in custody.

Overview

  • Mohammad Yousuf Kataria, 26, of Kulgam was arrested on suspicion of providing logistical support to the group behind the April 22 Baisaran attack that killed 26 people.
  • Officials said he was taken into custody after being questioned and has been remanded to 14 days of police custody.
  • Investigators linked him through analysis of weapons and equipment recovered in Operation Mahadev, the July 28 encounter in which three militants were killed.
  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah previously told Parliament that forensic tests matched cartridges and weapons from Operation Mahadev to the Pahalgam crime scene and identified the slain militants as LeT/TRF operatives.
  • The NIA-led probe continues to track foreign funding channels tied to TRF, with a reported trail to Malaysia, after earlier arrests of two locals accused of sheltering the attackers.
