J&K LG Lays Foundation for 350 NGO-Funded Smart Houses for Displaced Families

Overview

• Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha launched construction in Jammu district for three-bedroom pre-fabricated homes benefiting families affected by Operation Sindoor shelling and recent natural disasters.
• The Rs 35 crore project will be fully funded by HRDS India, which plans modern, resilient units that include features such as cowsheds.
• Beneficiaries will receive 15 years of free life insurance, annual health checkups, and five years of maintenance provided by the NGO.
• Officials stressed that no money from the government treasury will be used for the housing build.
• The administration cited earlier relief measures, including assistance to 4,309 people, Rs 8.22 crore in compensation, a job and ex-gratia for a civilian’s next of kin, and temporary support for 23 landslide-affected families in Rah Salyote.
