Overview

  • Officials report at least 41 deaths across Jammu and Kashmir, including 34 on the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage route, with searches ongoing in debris.
  • Rail and road links remain severely disrupted as the Jammu–Srinagar and other highways are shut; Northern Railways canceled 58 trains and short-terminated 64 more.
  • Rivers swelled across the region with the Jhelum breaching flood marks in Anantnag and Srinagar, while heavy releases at the Madhopur barrage drove downstream flooding in Punjab.
  • More than 10,000 residents have been moved to safety as Army, NDRF and SDRF teams conduct rescues; the shrine yatra is suspended for a second day.
  • The IMD flags further heavy rain and thunderstorms even as some levels begin to recede; schools are closed on Thursday and telecom services were only partially restored after outages.
