J&K CM Omar Abdullah Demands Action Over Interference in Power Projects

His remarks follow MEIL’s claim that political pressure is disrupting the delayed 850 MW Ratle hydropower project in Kishtwar.

Overview

  • Abdullah called the ongoing power works projects of national importance and urged law-enforcement agencies to act against anyone obstructing them, saying the ACB would have raided if such allegations targeted his ministers.
  • MEIL alleged BJP MLA Shagun Parihar and supporters pressured project staff for contracts and large-scale hiring despite no vacancies, warning the company could withdraw if disruptions continue.
  • MEIL reported its HR head was attacked near Drabshalla on December 4, after which a police case was registered on the deputy commissioner’s direction.
  • The Ratle project, implemented by an NHPCJKSPDC joint venture and built by MEIL, is about two years behind schedule, with MEIL citing a September 2026 completion target and a cost of roughly Rs 3,700 crore.
  • Abdullah alleged two opposition MLAs are interfering across Kishtwar projects and noted the Power Development Corporation remains outside elected control, while BJP leaders discussed a response with a statement expected Tuesday.
