J&K Bans USBs and Unsecured Apps for Official Work, Orders Shift to GovDrive

Overview

  • The General Administration Department, through Commissioner Secretary M. Raju, issued the directive covering the Civil Secretariat and all district deputy commissioners’ offices.
  • Public messaging platforms and unsecured online tools, including WhatsApp and iLovePDF, are prohibited for processing, sharing or storing official or confidential material.
  • Departments must use GovDrive, a government cloud service that provides 50 GB per official with centralized access and synchronization across devices.
  • Limited exceptions allow only two to three pen drives per department after SIO approval, with physical submission to NIC for reconfiguration, authorization and ownership registration.
  • Violations may invite disciplinary action, and sensitive technical information must be classified and handled only via approved secure channels consistent with MHA and CERT-In guidance.
