J&K ACB Arrests Mahore Head Constable in Rs 8,000 Bribery Trap
Investigators say a verified complaint led to a monitored cash trap overseen by a gazetted officer.
Overview
- The Anti-Corruption Bureau registered FIR No. 02/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act at ACB Udhampur.
- The complainant, required to report daily to PS Mahore under interim bail, alleged harassment and a demand for Rs 8,000 for timely release, which was paid on October 1 inside the station.
- Two days later, the head constable allegedly sought Rs 12,000 for releasing a tractor and for timely release, threatened action under the Public Safety Act, and settled the demand at Rs 8,000.
- A trap team with independent witnesses caught Head Constable Mahroof Ahmed red-handed while demanding and accepting the cash, and he was taken into custody.
- The ACB says further investigation is underway, and in a separate case it booked a PWD (R&B) Head Draftsman in Poonch on disproportionate assets allegations following searches in Jammu.
