JioHotstar Announces Rs 4,000 Crore South Push, Signs Tamil Nadu LoI

The strategy aims to convert heavy southern engagement into rapid subscriber gains through a deeper regional slate.

  • Operated by RelianceDisney joint venture JioStar, the platform set a five‑year programme to back creators, build production capacity and commission South‑first stories across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.

  • Executives said investments will target regional series and expanded non‑scripted formats, with most film spending directed to post‑theatrical acquisitions.
  • JioHotstar cited more than 200 million subscribers and an ambition to more than double that base, noting southern users spend 70% more time on the service and can join for as little as Rs 50 a month.
  • As part of the rollout, the company showcased a lineup of 25 new South titles featuring returning franchises and new originals.
