Jio Relaunches Prime With One-Year Price Lock

Locking plan prices for 12 months gives customers protection from future recharge hikes.

Overview

  • Reliance Jio relaunched its paid Jio Prime membership on Monday, charging a one-time fee of ₹300 and guaranteeing current prices on eligible prepaid and postpaid packs until September 5, 2027.
  • The membership bundles two ₹300 cashback vouchers (₹600 total), priority customer support, early access to select Jio products and trials, and can be bought via the MyJio app, Jio.com, Jio Stores and authorised partners.
  • Jio did not publish a complete list of the ‘eligible’ or ‘qualifying’ recharge packs covered by the price guarantee, so customers must check plan eligibility before enrolling or recharging.
  • Analysts say the relaunch is a direct tactical response to recent tariff moves by rivals, notably Airtel’s removal of its ₹299 pack, and Nomura models suggest even modest churn from competitors could deliver material net subscriber gains for Jio.
  • The offer could blunt customer pain from industry price rationalisation and pressure smaller carriers to respond, while consumers who keep Prime can avoid short-term tariff rises but should confirm which specific packs are protected.
