• Murray died Monday morning at home in Bryn Mawr at age 87, with his godson Rob Ellis announcing the news publicly.
• A Villanova graduate who joined the Eagles in 1969, he became general manager in 1974 and served through 1982.
• He hired Dick Vermeil in 1976 and helped acquire Bill Bergey and Ron Jaworski, moves that led to the team’s first Super Bowl appearance in 1981.
• In 1974 he helped open the first Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia with CHOP’s Dr. Audrey Evans and local McDonald’s partners, a network now exceeding 385 houses in 62 countries.
