Jharkhand to Stage 'Run for Gajraj' Half-Marathon in Dalma Foothills on Sunday
The event seeks to build public support for elephant conservation under Project Elephant.
Overview
- Officials said nearly 3,200 participants had registered as of Saturday for the first-of-its-kind 16-km run.
- The course will start at 7:00 am from Saherbera Football Ground, traverse four villages, and finish at Saherbera.
- Prize money is set at ₹31,000 for first place, ₹21,000 for second, ₹11,000 for third, and ₹5,000 each for fourth and fifth in both men's and women's categories.
- Organisers stated that safety and security arrangements are in place and the route will remain in the foothills rather than inside the sanctuary.
- The DFO reported only five elephants currently in Dalma with many in Chakulia and Chandil, and forest sources attributed the exodus to a 16-km trench in West Bengal that disrupted a migration corridor.
