Jharkhand Police Report 9-Month Crackdown Results on Maoists, Cybercrime and Gangs

Police credit a tech-driven strategy for lower Maoist presence in Latehar, Gumla, Bokaro.

Overview

  • From January to September, police reported 266 Maoist arrests, 32 deaths in encounters and 30 surrenders, including the killings of central committee members Vivek alias Prayag Manjhi and Anuj alias Sahdev Soren, each carrying ₹1 crore bounties.
  • Security forces said they seized 157 firearms, 11,950 cartridges, 18,884 detonators and 394.5 kg of explosives, neutralized 228 IEDs, destroyed 37 bunkers and confiscated ₹39.53 lakh in levies.
  • A focused August–September cyber drive logged 4,281 complaints, produced 128 FIRs and 105 arrests, froze ₹7.42 crore and returned ₹37.28 lakh to victims, with seizures that included 166 SIM cards, 60 ATM cards, 15 passbooks, two laptops and 11 cheque books.
  • Organized-crime actions featured the extradition of Sunil Kumar alias Mayank Singh from Azerbaijan and contraband recoveries such as 153 kg ganja and 523 liters of illicit alcohol in Bokaro, opium and doda in Khunti, and illegal pan-masala in Simdega.
  • Between August and September, police executed 12,651 warrants, made 4,186 arrests and seized 413 vehicles, 136 weapons and 1,221 rounds, while ITSSO closed 297 cases within 60 days and the Pratibimb app enabled three cases and eight arrests.
