Overview
- The State Sentence Review Board, chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, examined 103 life-term cases at its 35th meeting in Ranchi and cleared 51 for release.
- The approvals followed inputs from courts, district police chiefs, jail superintendents and probation officers, with case histories and prisoner profiles reviewed.
- Officials were directed to conduct family and economic background checks, prepare income-generation plans, and link eligible ex-prisoners to skill programs and schemes in dairy, poultry and animal husbandry.
- Separate action plans were ordered for inmates with serious physical or mental health issues, with medical and psychological support arranged before release.
- Since 2019, Jharkhand has approved 619 releases, with 558 physically verified, 470 linked to social-security benefits, and 61 verifications pending.
