- The Jets signed quarterback Will Levis to their practice squad on Tuesday, Sept. 22, and released fellow practice-squad QB Bailey Zappe in a corresponding move.
- Levis will be the team’s No. 3 quarterback on the practice squad while Geno Smith remains the starter and rookie Cade Klubnik is the active backup; Levis would need a formal promotion to be eligible on game day.
- Levis was the 33rd overall pick in 2023, started 21 games for the Tennessee Titans (5–16), and has 3,899 passing yards with 21 touchdowns and 16 interceptions; he missed the 2025 season after right-shoulder surgery.
- Reporting says Levis impressed the Jets during a workout earlier this month and head coach Aaron Glenn called him “a good player we feel like we can develop,” adding he will get reps against the team’s defense in practice.
- The move gives New York short-term insurance for its Week 3 trip to Detroit and creates a low-cost way to evaluate whether Levis can rebuild his NFL value without displacing the team’s planned depth chart.
