Jets Claim TE Jelani Woods, Add Cam Jones and Esa Pole on Waivers

Glenn cast Woods as a two-way tight end, with corresponding roster moves still unannounced.

Overview

  • New York was awarded Woods off waivers a day after his Colts release, and the 26-year-old has not played since 2022 because of hamstring and turf toe injuries.
  • Head coach Aaron Glenn described the 6-foot-7 target as a huge tight end who can help as both a blocker and a receiver.
  • The Jets also claimed linebacker Cam Jones and offensive tackle Esa Pole from the Chiefs, with Glenn touting Jones’ special-teams value and calling Pole a developmental prospect.
  • Woods logged seven catches for 75 yards in the preseason before Indianapolis cut him while keeping four tight ends, including first-rounder Tyler Warren.
  • New York has yet to announce the corresponding transactions, and Woods joins a tight end room that includes Mason Taylor, Jeremy Ruckert and Stone Smartt.
