JetBlue Plane Tips Backward at JFK Airport Due to Shift in Weight During Deplaning, No Injuries Reported

Despite the attempt to restore balance by directing passengers to move around within the plane, the aircraft tipped backward about 30 degrees shortly after landing from Barbados, resulting in the plane falling into a wheelie; the aircraft has since been removed from service pending an inspection.

  • The incident occurred on a JetBlue flight from Bridgetown, Barbados, when the plane tipped backward around 30 degrees shortly after landing at JFK Airport, causing the tail of the aircraft to hit the ground.
  • According to JetBlue officials, the tipping was due to a shift in weight and balance during deplaning. Passengers were instructed to move around within the plane to try and restore balance.
  • The tipping of the plane was so abrupt and intense that part of the aircraft's door broke. However, no injuries were reported in the incident.
  • While the aircraft was being unloaded, crew members instructed passengers to exit two rows at a time and then take a break to avoid further tipping.
  • The aircraft has been taken out of service for inspection and the incident did not disrupt any other operations at JFK Airport.
  • JetBlue is currently reviewing the incident but did not provide immediate updates on its investigation.
