JetBlue Opens Bookings for BlueFirst Domestic First Class

The rollout lets JetBlue sell a new three-tier first-class product as part of a fare overhaul meant to raise premium revenue.

Overview

  • Tickets for BlueFirst went on sale Thursday and the product is available on more than 30 routes with the first service scheduled to start Dec. 8 on Boston–Fort Lauderdale.
  • BlueFirst cabins feature two-by-two plush seats with up to five inches of recline and up to seven inches more legroom, 13.3-inch Bluetooth seatback screens, bento-style meals and sommelier-selected wines.
  • JetBlue is offering three BlueFirst fare levels—BlueFirst Base, BlueFirst and BlueFirst Flex—with different checked-bag allowances, seat-selection rules, boarding priority and change or cancellation policies.
  • An initial schedule lists Boston, New York (LaGuardia and JFK) and Fort Lauderdale routes launching between December and next spring, and JetBlue says it will add BlueFirst to all aircraft that do not carry its Mint business class.
  • The launch is a clear push to grow higher-yield premium inventory for the carrier and it could affect ticket prices and cabin availability on short domestic and nearby international routes as the retrofit program scales up.
