Overview
- Jet2 will base six aircraft at Gatwick, including five new Airbus A321neo jets promoted for lower fuel burn and noise.
- The initial programme spans 29 leisure routes across Spain, the Canary and Balearic Islands, Greece, Turkey, Portugal, Italy, Croatia, Bulgaria and Cyprus.
- The company says the move creates more than 300 direct jobs across pilots, cabin crew, engineering and ground operations, with additional indirect roles expected.
- Gatwick’s chief executive welcomed the entry and linked it to recent government approval for routine use of the Northern Runway, which increases scope for growth.
- Gatwick becomes Jet2’s 14th UK base after the airline secured slots for six aircraft, expanding options for holidaymakers across the South East.
