Chastain had been a fan-favorite pick for the role, with fans often asking her to sign copies of the book during her Broadway performances.
Chastain explained that she refused to sign the books as she felt it was 'taking credit for someone else's work' since she was not contractually attached to the project.
The Netflix adaptation will be written by Liz Tigelaar and directed by Leslye Headland.
Chastain expressed her excitement for the film and apologized to fans for any disappointment.
