  • Hull built a sizeable lead after bold front‑running but was caught in the final strides, 3:56.99 to 3:57.02, in the Diamond League final at Letzigrund.
  • BBC analyst Steve Cram called it a rare misjudgment as he said Hull completely ran out of gas in the closing metres.
  • Linden Hall closed hard for third in 3:57.44 and was nearly able to overhaul the front two.
  • The defeat denied Hull the Diamond League title and was reported to have cost Australia a chance to open a fourth Olympic women’s 1500m place.
  • Elsewhere in Zurich, Mykolas Alekna won the discus as Matthew Denny placed fourth, Audrey Werro took the 800m with Sarah Billings seventh, and Mackenzie Little finished fourth in the javelin.
