Jersey Father Bikes 600 Miles to Fund Bone Cancer Research in Daughter’s Memory

He began his Land’s End to John O’Groats ride on June 22 to raise funds for kinder treatments after his daughter’s fight with Ewing sarcoma

Overview

  • Beth Phelps was diagnosed with aggressive Ewing sarcoma in December 2020 after her parents noticed a lump on her shoulder
  • She underwent four rounds of chemotherapy starting Christmas Day 2020, surgery at Stanmore Hospital in May 2021 to remove her left scapula, and six weeks of radiotherapy at University College London Hospitals
  • After being declared cancer-free, Beth’s tumour returned in June 2022 and her parents chose palliative care over a clinical trial to keep her comfortable
  • Beth died on October 3, 2022, at age 12, surrounded by her parents and family pets just days before her 13th birthday
  • From June 22 to July 5, 2025, her father is cycling from Land’s End, Cornwall, to John O’Groats, Scotland, to raise money for the Bone Cancer Research Trust and advocate for kinder therapies
