Overview
- The JEE Lima Centro accepted several exclusion requests filed between August 21 and 23 and gave López Aliaga a one-day deadline to submit written descargos to begin the first-instance review.
- Petitioners say that after Luis Rubio formally resigned as Renovación Popular’s mayoral candidate, López Aliaga’s new position on the list would let him retake the Lima mayoralty without a fresh mayoral bid, citing Article 194 (no immediate reelection) and Article 103 (abuse of rights).
- Complaints ask the JEE to apply a recent JEE Morropón ruling from August 20 that excluded a similarly placed candidate and treat that decision as a controlling precedent for López Aliaga’s case.
- The dispute follows a JNE Pleno reversal earlier this year that reinstated López Aliaga’s registration (Resolución N.° 1758-2026-JNE), and several party figures have voiced discomfort while López Aliaga leads polls showing roughly 16–21% support in Lima.
- If the JEE issues an exclusion it can be appealed to the JNE Pleno and second-instance decisions must be resolved by the statutory Sept. 4 deadline, meaning a final ruling could alter the Lima mayoral race before the October 4 election.
