JD(U) Names First 57 Candidates as NDA Rolls Out Bihar Election Slates

Early candidate choices point to strains over seat claims inside the NDA.

Overview

  • Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) released 57 nominees, including Anant Singh in Mokama, and placed contenders in several constituencies previously eyed by Chirag Paswan’s LJP (Ram Vilas).
  • The BJP named 71 candidates in its first list, fielding deputy chief ministers Samrat Choudhary (Tarapur) and Vijay Kumar Sinha (Lakhisarai) and dropping Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav from Patna Sahib.
  • A second BJP list added 12 more names, featuring folk singer Maithili Thakur in Alinagar and former IPS officer Anand Mishra in Buxar, taking the party’s announced tally to 83 of 101 seats.
  • LJP (Ram Vilas) issued its opening batch of 14 nominees, while HAM (Secular) confirmed six candidates, reflecting the seat-sharing pact of BJP 101, JD(U) 101, LJP (RV) 29, and six each for HAM and RLM.
  • Reports described discontent over allocations and unilateral ticketing moves in JD(U) even as alliance leaders rejected talk of a rift; nominations close October 17 for phase one, with voting on November 6 and 11 and counting on November 14.
