Overview
- The Judicial Commission of Pakistan met on Monday under Chief Justice Yahya Afridi in Islamabad to review candidate records and recommend confirmations, new additional-judge appointments and short-term bench extensions.
- The commission recommended confirmation of four Peshawar High Court judges: Farah Jamshed, Inaam Ullah Khan, Sabit Ullah Khan and Aurangzeb.
- For the Sindh High Court the JCP recommended appointing Muhammad Humayon Khan, Suresh Kumar and Dr. Shah Nawaz Memon as additional judges and approved a six-month extension for Additional Judge Khalid Hussain Shahani plus a three-month extension for the court’s constitutional benches.
- The commission recommended Ayyaz Shaukat, Shahrukh Arjumand and Umair Majeed Malik as additional judges for the Islamabad High Court while declining to confirm Justice Syed Fiaz ul Hassan Shah and leaving two advertised Sindh additional-judge vacancies unfilled because nominees failed to secure a majority.
- The JCP’s recommendations now move into the formal appointment process, and the unresolved Sindh vacancies could affect case allocation and the makeup of multi-judge constitutional panels in the short term.
