JCB Bucket Kills 27-Year-Old Engineer in Gurugram Night Road Work

Police have seized the earthmover, registered an FIR alleging negligence and are searching for the absconding operator.

Overview

  • A 27-year-old systems engineer, Tushar Kumar, was struck and killed when the rear bucket of a JCB earthmover hit his motorcycle near Moulsari Avenue Rapid Metro station in DLF Phase-3.
  • The crash, which occurred late Thursday night around 11:30–11:45 pm, threw Kumar from his bike and he was taken to Narayana Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
  • Gurugram police found the JCB (registration HR-36-AN-7050) abandoned at the scene, seized the machine and filed an FIR naming the loader operator and other unidentified persons under sections for death by negligence and rash driving.
  • Kumar’s father has alleged the GMDA-contracted road work had no barricades or warning signs at night and has demanded action; GMDA had not provided a public response in the immediate reports.
  • Investigators are examining site safety and the operator’s actions while police seek the fleeing driver; the case could prompt tighter controls on night maintenance work and oversight of contractors if officials follow up.
