Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez Returns to Chivas

After Four Seasons with the Galaxy, Mexico's Leading Goal Scorer Rejoins His Boyhood Club

  • Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez, the leading goal scorer for the Mexican national team, has returned to his boyhood club Chivas in Mexico's Liga MX after spending four seasons with the LA Galaxy.
  • Hernandez, 35, began his soccer career with Chivas in 2006 and made 64 appearances, scoring 26 goals before moving to Manchester United and embarking on his European career.
  • After leaving Chivas in 2010, Hernandez moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, West Ham United and Sevilla. After Sevilla, he made the move to Major League Soccer, joining the Galaxy.
  • During his time with the Galaxy, Hernandez's first and last years were marred by injury. In 2020, he made just 12 appearances and scored only two goals. Last season, he made only nine appearances and scored one goal after suffering an ACL injury.
  • Despite his injuries and age, Chivas and analysts believe Hernandez can still contribute to the team, not only on the field but also off the field with his leadership and experience.
