Japón: Del Mito al Manga Extends Run at Museo Franz Mayer through January 2026

The expanded exhibition invites hands-on creativity through interactive workshops alongside a fan collaboration with Friki Plaza.

Overview

  • Museo Franz Mayer expanded its gallery to host the V&A’s first full exhibition in Mexico, opening August 8 and now scheduled through January 2026.
  • More than 150 objects span four thematic zones—Cielo, Mar, Bosque and Ciudad—including Hokusai’s original “Great Wave” woodblock print and 1,000 origami cranes donated by the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.
  • Local loans from Panini, Museo del Juguete Antiguo México and Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil complement V&A treasures and reflect Mexico’s active japonofilia.
  • Interactive features encourage visitors of all ages to touch taiko drums, draw in a manga workshop and contribute to origami displays.
  • A new partnership with Friki Plaza introduces fan-focused events such as cosplay meetups and themed evenings to enrich the immersive experience.
