Japanese Macaque Escapes from Scottish Wildlife Park
Public urged not to approach the monkey as a team from the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland works to recapture it.
- A Japanese macaque has escaped from the Highland Wildlife Park in Kingussie, Scotland.
- The monkey was spotted in a nearby village, Kincraig, eating from a bird feeder.
- The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) has assembled a team to recapture the monkey and urges the public not to approach it.
- This is not the first time a Japanese macaque has escaped from Highland Wildlife Park; a similar incident occurred in 2008.
- Japanese macaques, also known as snow monkeys, are not usually dangerous to humans, but in 2022, a gang of snow monkeys injured almost 50 people in the Japanese city of Yamaguchi.
