Japanese Chef Fatally Stabbed in Vancouver's Chinatown

Wataru Kakiuchi, a beloved local chef, was attacked while waiting for a ride home; police seek witnesses

Wataru Kakiuchi, 32, was identified as the victim of a fatal stabbing in Vancouver's Chinatown.
Kakiuchi was a chef at Hapa Izakaya in Yaletown and was well-regarded in the community.
The attack occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday; Kakiuchi died before reaching the hospital.
Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim condemned the violence and extended condolences to Kakiuchi’s family and friends.
Police have not made any arrests and are asking for witnesses or dashcam footage from the area.
