Overview
- The Ministry of Defense’s Chugoku–Shikoku Defense Bureau formally notified Yamaguchi Prefecture and Iwakuni City that Field Carrier Landing Practice will take place at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni.
- Training is slated for weekdays only and includes night landings from 6:45 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.
- F-35C and F/A-18E aircraft are expected to participate, according to the notification.
- Iwakuni Mayor Yoshihiko Fukuda opposes the plan and will travel to Tokyo on Sept. 16 to request cancellation.
- Should the drills proceed, they would be the first FCLP at Iwakuni since September 2000, with both city and prefectural officials lodging objections.
