Japan Police Announce Two Arrests in Toilet Voyeurism Cases, One Tied to Suspected Child-Pornography Production

Police cite seized micro-cameras with large video caches as probes continue.

Overview

  • Osaka Prefectural Police arrested Shoma Kobayashi, 31, on Nov. 12 on suspicion of producing child pornography for distribution after a camera allegedly recorded a 16-year-old boy in a park restroom in Iyo, Ehime, in July.
  • Searches in August recovered 13 small cameras and multiple SD cards, and police said the media contained more than 100 toilet videos, while another report said over 200 files were found.
  • Investigators said Kobayashi surfaced when they traced the seller behind videos uncovered in a separate voyeurism case.
  • Separately, Tsu Police on Nov. 11 arrested Mie prefectural employee Taiga Kishie, 20, on suspicion of trespass and violating a nuisance-prevention ordinance after he allegedly inserted a smartphone into a women’s stall on Nov. 4.
  • Police reported that Kobayashi told them he had filmed more than 1,000 people over about a decade and sold videos to 20–30 buyers via social media for at least ¥6 million.
