Japan Coast Guard Ship Itsukushima Bolsters Drills and Cultural Exchanges in Chennai

Overview

  • JCGS Itsukushima is conducting professional calls, reciprocal ship visits and interactive sessions with the Indian Coast Guard at Chennai Port as part of its week-long Global Ocean Voyage Training port call.
  • A delegation led by Vice Admiral Hiroaki Kanosue has held bilateral discussions with Indian Coast Guard Director General Paramesh Sivamani and Additional Director General Donny Michael to deepen maritime cooperation.
  • Cultural exchanges including a traditional Indian welcome by NCC cadets, a joint yoga session and sports activities are scheduled through July 12 to foster mutual understanding.
  • Following the Chennai visit, the two services will conduct Exercise Jaa Mata at sea to enhance coordination and operational synergy.
  • Four Indian Coast Guard officers will embark on Itsukushima as Sea Riders en route to Singapore under an exchange programme rooted in the 2006 Memorandum of Cooperation.
