Japan Approves Princess Aiko’s First Official Foreign Visit to Laos in November

The six-day trip commemorates 70 years of JapanLaos relations.

Overview

  • The Cabinet approved the plan on Oct. 17 for a six-day visit from Nov. 17 to 22.
  • She will arrive in Vientiane on Nov. 17, call on President Thongloun Sisoulith on Nov. 18, and attend a banquet hosted by Vice President Pany Yathotou.
  • Her program includes a Nov. 19 visit to the COPE Visitor Center, which raises awareness about unexploded ordnance from the Vietnam War era.
  • She will travel to Luang Prabang on Nov. 20 to tour the National Museum, meet a local government leader, and attend a luncheon.
  • This will be the fifth visit to Laos by members of Japan’s imperial family, following Emperor Naruhito’s trip in 2012 when he was crown prince.
