Japan has signed security assistance deals with Malaysia and Indonesia, providing financial aid and equipment to bolster their maritime security capabilities.
Japan and ASEAN have also launched a new initiative for the next-generation auto industry, aiming to enable ASEAN members to remain a major hub of auto production and exports.
Despite the strengthening ties between Japan and ASEAN, the bloc's stance towards China remains varied, with many members having strong ties with China and being reluctant to choose sides.
