The Japan Airlines plane, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, had just landed from Tokyo and struck the tail of the stationary Delta Boeing 737-800, which was waiting for de-icing before departing for Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew of either aircraft, and all passengers were safely deplaned and returned to the terminal.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have launched investigations into the incident, which occurred in an area not under air traffic control.
