Jaén Airport to Reopen in October After Runway Rehab, Flights Set for Nov. 1

The long-delayed reopening follows a two-year shutdown that hampered Jaén’s economy, with a S/317 million upgrade plan now moving through design.

Overview

  • Transport Minister César Sandoval confirmed completion of runway works and set the reopening window for the second week of October, with LATAM ticket sales authorized immediately.
  • Commercial service is scheduled to resume on November 1, restoring air links that were suspended for roughly two years.
  • CORPAC will oversee an estimated 10 days of technical testing before operations ramp up, according to officials and local community supervisors.
  • The rehabilitation covered 15,000 m² of runway with base stabilization, high‑resistance hot‑mix asphalt, geomesh and geotextiles, drainage restoration, plus terminal upgrades including X‑ray, metal detector, baggage belt and a stand for two A320s.
  • The government detailed a S/317 million modernization program to extend the runway to 2,750 meters, add a new taxiway, expand the terminal and build a new control tower, with the technical file in progress and initial tenders targeted for Q2 2026.
