Jan. 6 Insurrectionist Pleads Guilty to Assaulting Officers
Houston Man Identified and Reported by Bumble Match Faces Sentencing in March
- Andrew Taake, a 32-year-old Houston man, has pleaded guilty to assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers using a dangerous weapon during the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
- Taake was identified and reported to the FBI by a woman he matched with on the dating app Bumble, who coaxed a confession out of him.
- Taake admitted to using bear spray and a metal whip to attack law enforcement officers defending the Capitol.
- Taake is one of more than 1,230 people who have been charged for their involvement in the insurrection, and at least the sixth Houston-area person to be convicted.
- His sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 26, 2024.
