Jan. 6 Insurrectionist Pleads Guilty to Assaulting Officers

Houston Man Identified and Reported by Bumble Match Faces Sentencing in March

Andrew Taake, a 32-year-old Houston man, has pleaded guilty to assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers using a dangerous weapon during the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
Taake was identified and reported to the FBI by a woman he matched with on the dating app Bumble, who coaxed a confession out of him.
Taake admitted to using bear spray and a metal whip to attack law enforcement officers defending the Capitol.
Taake is one of more than 1,230 people who have been charged for their involvement in the insurrection, and at least the sixth Houston-area person to be convicted.
His sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 26, 2024.
