Jan. 6 Capitol Rioter Sentenced to Prison for Attempting to Breach Speaker's Lobby

Christopher R. Grider, a Texas man who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was sentenced to seven years in prison for his role in the insurrection.
Grider tried to break into the Speaker's Lobby and cut off power to the Capitol building.
Grider pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges and was convicted of seven other felonies related to the riot.
Over 1,000 people have been charged in connection with the Capitol attack, which disrupted Congress's certification of the 2020 presidential election results.
Grider's attorney argued for a lighter sentence, citing shorter sentences given to other rioters who committed worse offenses.
