Jan. 6 Capitol Attack Defendant Sentenced to Two Years for Shooting at Law Enforcement

Nathan Donald Pelham, who also faced charges for illegally entering the Capitol, opened fire on deputies days before his scheduled surrender to the F.B.I.

  • Nathan Donald Pelham, a Texas man involved in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, was sentenced to two years in federal prison for shooting at local law enforcement officers.
  • Pelham was scheduled to surrender to the F.B.I. for charges related to illegally entering the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, but instead opened fire on deputies who were called to his home for a welfare check.
  • Pelham was also charged with four misdemeanors for illegally entering the Capitol, where he remained for more than seven minutes.
  • He pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and to parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.
  • More than 1,110 people have been charged in connection with the Capitol attack, with sentences ranging from time served to 22 years in prison.
