Jan. 19 Weather: Cold Front 29 Intensifies in Southern Mexico as Galicia Turns Damp, Córdoba Issues Yellow Alert

National meteorological services forecast 70–90 km/h northerly gusts, morning frosts, plus heavy rainfall in the southeast, with only light drizzle expected in Galicia.

Overview

  • Mexico’s SMN reports Cold Front No. 29 and its polar air mass generating north winds of 70–90 km/h in the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec, with 30–50 km/h along coasts of Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo.
  • Cold to very cold conditions with morning frosts are expected across the Mesa del Norte and Mesa Central, while Mexico City boroughs are forecast near 5–8°C for minimum temperatures with isolated light rain.
  • Strong to locally heavy rain is forecast for Veracruz, Oaxaca and Chiapas due to a low‑pressure channel, with Pacific moisture bringing showers to parts of the northwest, west, center and south, and a new frontal system approaching the northern border later.
  • In Spain’s Galicia, AEMET‑based municipal forecasts point to a cool, very humid day with overcast skies and morning to midday drizzle or light rain, generally limited to fractions of a millimeter and highs near 10–13°C.
  • In Argentina’s Córdoba province, the SMN projects a mostly cloudy day with temperatures around 16–28°C and maintains a yellow alert for Río Seco, Villa Tulumba and San Francisco del Chañar, accompanied by standard safety recommendations.
