Jan. 1 ‘Hoy No Circula’ Restricts Red-Sticker, Hologram 1–2 Vehicles From 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. in CDMX and Edomex

The rule targets air pollution under local environmental authorities, with CAMe empowered to adjust or suspend it if needed.

Overview

  • The restriction applies across all 16 Mexico City boroughs and 18 adjoining State of Mexico municipalities, including Naucalpan, Tlalnepantla, Ecatepec, Nezahualcóyotl and Atizapán.
  • Vehicles exempt from the rule include those with hologram 00 or 0, electric or hybrid cars and out-of-state vehicles covered by a valid Pase Turístico.
  • Specific allowances cover vehicles for people with disabilities with proper credentials, emergency and public service units, authorized cargo or school transport and documented medical transfers.
  • Enforcement is carried out by SSC-CDMX and SEMOVI, with fines ranging from 20 to 30 UMA (about 2,200–3,300 pesos in 2025) and possible towing to an impound lot.
  • The program remains in force on holidays and regardless of trip length, and no official suspension for January 1 has been announced in the latest update.
