Jammu Shuts Schools Oct. 6–7 Under IMD Heavy-Rain Alert

The order follows an IMD warning tied to a western disturbance, with reopening to be decided after conditions ease.

Overview

  • Director School Education Jammu Dr. Naseem Javaid Chowdhary ordered all government and private schools in the Jammu division to close for two days.
  • The IMD forecast warns of heavy to very heavy rain over 48 hours with risks of flash floods, landslides, thunderstorms and gusty winds up to 60–70 km/h.
  • Disaster-response teams have been placed on standby and residents have been urged to avoid non-essential travel, especially in low-lying or hilly areas.
  • Recent downpours damaged homes, sunk roads and triggered landslides in Rajouri, and a key bridge was washed away in Bant village of Udhampur.
  • Tourism in Bhaderwah has slumped after repeated cloudbursts, flash floods and recent militant attacks, prompting appeals for government support.
