Jammu Rail Remains Halted as Srinagar Highway Stays Closed for Fifth Day

Limited special trains are being readied on a single line to move stranded passengers.

Overview

  • No regular arrivals or departures at Jammu, Katra or Udhampur for four days, with Northern Railway confirming 38 cancellations on Friday.
  • Multiple bridges and tracks suffered major damage, including Bridge 17 (KathuaMadhopur) and Bridge 137 (HiranagarGhagwal), and full double-track restoration is expected to take three to four weeks.
  • Authorities plan two specials from Jammu today—one towards UP–Bihar and one to Delhi—targeted to depart around 15:00 and 17:00.
  • The JammuSrinagar highway is shut for a fifth day due to landslides, while Mughal Road runs one-way and the Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag route is open only for light vehicles.
  • IMD forecasts more rain through 2 September with warnings for flash floods and landslides, as urban power recovers but rural outages and water shortages persist.
