Jammu & Kashmir Reopens 12 Tourist Sites After Security Review

The decision follows a security review led by the lieutenant governor to rebuild visitor confidence after the April Pahalgam attack.

Overview

  • Seven locations in the Kashmir division and five in the Jammu division reopened on September 29 following a Unified Headquarters meeting chaired by LG Manoj Sinha.
  • Sites now welcoming visitors include Aru Valley, Rafting Point Yanner, Akkad Park, Padshahi Park and Kaman Post in Kashmir, and Dagan Top, Dhaggar and the Shiv Cave in Salal in Jammu.
  • Authorities had closed nearly 50 of 87 popular sites after the April 22 attack near Pahalgam, with reopenings proceeding in phases over the summer.
  • Trade bodies KCCI and CCIK and IATO president Ravi Gosain welcomed the move and urged the administration to clear remaining sites alongside continued security and promotional support.
  • Officials and industry stakeholders expect the openings to revive bookings and provide relief to hoteliers, transporters, guides and artisans who depend on tourism.
