Jammu and Kashmir Launches 521-Home Rebuild for LoC Shelling Victims With NGO Partner

HRDS India will deliver prefabricated, insured houses within six months to bridge relief shortfalls after Operation Sindoor.

Overview

  • Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced 133 permanent houses for affected families in Poonch, to be built by HRDS at about Rs 10 lakh per unit within six months.
  • Foundation stones were laid in Rajouri for 388 prefabricated units in the first phase, each with three rooms, free insurance, five-year maintenance and regular medical checkups.
  • The average cost per Rajouri unit is around Rs 9.80 lakh, with completion targeted in six months under the NGO-supported model.
  • A previously signed MoU between the divisional commissioners and HRDS envisages a total of 1,500 houses for phased reconstruction.
  • Officials said SDRF assistance of Rs 2 lakh per destroyed house is insufficient, noting over Rs 10 crore in additional relief, as the administration coupled aid distribution with on-site security reviews.
