Jammu Accelerates Water Recovery After Floods as Tawi Filtration Plant Reopens

  • Minister Javed Ahmed Rana reviewed progress in Jammu, confirming the Tawi Filtration Plant at Dhounthly was restored overnight and is supplying Old City localities such as Panjthirthi, Mubarak Mandi, Ustad Mohalla, Kachi Chowani, Jain Bazar and Zulaka Mohalla.
  • Engineers were ordered to work round the clock on the damaged 600 mm Sitlee–Manda (Sitlee–Lohar) rising main that feeds areas including Old City, New Plot Rehari and Bakshi Nagar.
  • Of 255 tube wells in Jammu, 240 are functional and the remaining 15 were targeted for restoration within two days, according to the departmental briefing.
  • The minister directed deployment of 90 water tankers to hardest‑hit zones and set up a dedicated 24/7 grievance control room to coordinate supply and respond to complaints.
  • The Border Roads Organisation mobilised resources to restore connectivity across J&K, while officials reported most Jammu City areas have water and power back and Udhampur authorities intensified testing, chlorination and public‑health outreach to prevent water‑borne disease.
