Overview

  • Overton sustained a fracture to his right little finger attempting a caught-and-bowled in England’s first ODI at Edgbaston and will now enter a supervised rehab programme.
  • Despite the injury, he returned to bowl 5.2 overs and secured career-best figures of 3 for 22 in England’s 238-run victory.
  • The ECB has decided not to add a replacement for the remaining ODIs, which are set for June 1 at Cardiff and June 3 at The Oval.
  • England’s pace-bowling options now centre on Saqib Mahmood, Brydon Carse, Matthew Potts and Luke Wood following prior withdrawals of Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson.
  • A call on a substitute for the T20I series beginning June 6 will be taken in the coming days as England finalises its white-ball squad.
