Jamie Oliver Qualifies for Private Pilot Licence

He says a year of training, nine exams and digital study aids helped him overcome dyslexia to earn the licence.

Overview

  • Oliver confirmed in an Instagram post on Thursday that he has qualified for a Private Pilot Licence and included photos of himself flying and his flight certificate.
  • He began with a discovery flight gifted by his wife Jools and spent roughly 12 months training, which he described as the "hardest" year of his life.
  • The qualification required nine theoretical exams that were especially daunting because he is dyslexic, and he credited Pooleys’ digital files and the NaturalReader app for helping him pass.
  • He named several instructors and flight schools that supported his training and said he flew in places including the Isles of Cornwall and around Table Mountain in South Africa.
  • A UK PPL permits personal single-engine flying after flight hours and a practical test, and Oliver said the achievement has left him invigorated and may inspire his future cooking projects while highlighting how digital aids can broaden access to technical qualifications.
