- James Lowe died peacefully of natural causes on May 22 at age 82, his family announced.
- He founded The Electric Prunes in California in the mid-1960s and led the band to mainstream success with the 1966 hit “I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)”.
- The original band released the albums Underground in 1967 and Mass in F Minor in 1968 before disbanding.
- After the split, Lowe built a career as a recording engineer and producer, working on Todd Rundgren’s Nazz and Sparks’ debut album A Woofer in Tweeter’s Clothing.
- Beginning in the early 2000s, he reclaimed the Electric Prunes name, reunited former members for the 2001 album Artifact and continued to release new music and tour until his passing.
