James Gunn announced the title and date on Instagram, sharing an image of Lex Luthor in battle armor alongside Superman. The imagery signals, according to coverage, that Lex Luthor is poised to take a central antagonist role using a war suit drawn from the comics. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav previously said Gunn would return to write and direct the sequel. The first Gunn-led Superman has grossed just over $611 million worldwide at the box office. Beyond Supergirl and the newly announced sequel, other solo films in the rebooted DC universe have not been confirmed.
